The Caroline and Downing Howell Scholarship Fund was established in 1985 by an anonymous donor. Annual $1,000 scholarship award recognizes a college-bound high school senior who plays tennis in Georgia. Selection of the winner is based upon the following criteria:
- Sportsmanship and character
- Scholarship
- Activities, leadership and honors
- Tennis accomplishments
- Essay- What Tennis Has Meant To Me
- Letters of recommendation
- From school
- From a family member
- From a school administrator or teacher
The 1,000 scholarship is for college-bound freshmen only. The winner will be selected by a scholarship committee.
Applicants must meet the following criteria to be eligible for the scholarship:
Be a high school senior who will attend an accredited college or university in the United States. The winner may attend the school of his/ her choice. Participation in college tennis is not required.
Not already have a full scholarship (due to NCAA restrictions for full scholarship students).
The applicant should complete pages 1 and 2. Page 3 should be completed by the applicant’s high school. The completed application, along with the essay and letters of recommendation, should be mailed to:
